Author Visit!!!

I don't know about you book lovers but I love an author visit. It's always so exciting to meet the creator of a well loved book. I'm always fascinated by the process of writing and what it takes to create a story from beginning to end. We will be having another awesome author visit our campus on Tuesday, December 6th. (Day 4) Award winning children's book author Carmen Oliver will be visiting with our Preschool through 7th grade students; and will be sharing 2 of her newest books The Twilight Library and Building an Orchestra of Hope. The Twilight Library is geared towards our lower elementary students and tells the story of a Librarian who lives in a forest and puts all the little creatures and animals to sleep with her fantastical tales. The illustrations are done in beautiful full page watercolor and are sure to wow our younger readers. Building an Orchestra of Hope: How Favio Chavez Taught Children to Make Music from Trash is geared towards our upper elementary students and tells the true story of Favio Chavez. Chavez was a music teacher in Paraguay who started giving free lessons to students in a town built on a landfill. His lessons were so loved he soon had more students than instruments. He then came up with the idea to create instruments out of the trash that surrounded them. It's an amazing and inspiring story that teaches students about hope, innovation and the power of music. For our 6th and 7th grade Carmen will be sharing one of her older novels A Voice For the Spirit Bears which tells the story of a young boy named Simon Jackson who felt much more at home with animals than with his own peers. As a teenager, he became fascinated with spirit bears, a rare subspecies of black bear with creamy white fur. He found out that they were losing their habitat to deforestation, and he decided to use his voice to do something about it. Our middle school students are sure to be drawn in by this inspiring story.

Attached is an order form for parent's to purchase copies of the book ahead of time so that they can be signed by the author on the day. All orders must be received by December 2nd. See you in the library.
